Eco-Friendly Cups
As consumers become increasingly committed to protecting their environment,
the demand for sustainable packaging will increase. Retailers who use
environmentally friendly products will distinguish themselves from competitors.
We carry a line of cold drink cups and lids on this site that meet
the needs of consumers and the environment alike.
NatureWorks™ Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), is a resin derived entirely from natural corn
materials. PLA is 100% renewable through annual corn harvests and fully compostable in
municipal and industrial facilities.
PLA by isolating the starch stored in the
corn kernels and converting it into sugars. During a process of fermentation and
separation the sugars become lactic acid which is used to create the plastic called
polylactide or PLA.
Cups made from PLA will begin to break down at 150º F and 90% humidity (ideal composting
conditions). In approximately 50 days within those conditions, the cups will be
completely gone. These cups have met stringent, scientifically based specifications
and have been certified 100% compostable by the Biodegradable
Plastics Institute.
